DA PECI CODE
By Ben Sohib
Don't expect this book to be another version of the famous Da Vinci Code because it absolutely has no relation at all, although the title may sound similar. A young Betawinese man named Rosid is troubled by his peci (a cap usually identified as Muslim apparel). He believes that someone's faith can't be judged by his wearing a peci or not and therefore refuses to wear it at religious ceremonies. His refusal triggers quarrels with his father who strongly holds his Betawinese traditional values and norms. And that is not the only thing that his father doesn't like about Rosid. His big kinky hair, and his girlfriend of different religion make the relationship between father and son worse. How do they solve the problem? Using the setting of Betawinese society, this book gives you a better insight into the witty people and traditions of the Betawi people. Rahma/fm
